Laneway Festival Singapore 2013 (Bands + Tickets)

This year’s Laneway Festival still brings excitement for those who have experienced the spellbinding finale by M83. The fantastical light show, the more-than-life enigma of Anthony Gonzales romping all over the stage (and literally reaching out to the fans), the perfect time of playing close to midnight and the possessed spirits of fans singing to every word of their songs all add up to that unforgettable night. For the coming year, Laneway organizers hopes to equal 2012’s success with a smashing line up. Less talk, more show.

Here’s the Laneway Festival Singapore 2013 acts:

Alt-J * Bat For Lashes * Cloud Nothings* Divine Fits*  Gotye * Japandroids * Kimbra * Kings of Convenience* Nicolas Jarr * Of Monster and Men * Polica * Real Estate * Tame Impala * Yeasayer

Pre-order of tickets are available HERE until November 5. For the early birds, standard ticket is at $145 (SGD) while it is $493 (SGD) and $350 (SGD) for a 4-ticket purchase and VIP, respectively.

The 2013 Laneway Festival Singapore will be seeing a new home this time. Leaving the Fort Canning grounds, the organizers moved the event to The Meadows, Gardens by the Bay (map here) on January 26, 2013.

11th Spanish Film Festival 2012 – Manila (Films and Schedule)

One of the best things of being in and around Metro Manila is how film festivals are always organized to keep the cinephile spirit alive for the country. Aside from loyal competition that happen throughout, foreign-language film festivals contribute to the awakening of public’s interest of watching good quality movies. Somehow these festivals provide an option rather just going to the box-office and waste two hours. To be honest, some of the movies entered in some competitions are already available online but it is always a satisfying experience to see them on the big screen. After a break from blogging, the Spanish Film Festival is here to get me back to it.

The 11th Spanish Film Festival gathered 18 of Spain’s best recent movies including award- winning ones. Organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila, Embassy of Spain in the Philippines, Film Development Council of the Philippines and AECID, the line-up is highlighted by Pan Negro (Black Bread) a controversial adaptation of Emili Teixidor’s novel Pan Negre. The movie explores its lead Andreu as he tries to discover the mysterious murder he witnessed as a child. Pan Negro, written and directed by Agustí Villaronga, won the prestigious Goya awards in 2010 for best film, best director for Villaronga and best actress for Nora Navas.

The festival is set to unfold October 4 and will last until October 14th. Greenbelt 3, Cinema 2 will host the event with tickets at P65 each.

Synopses of the official selection is available HERE or download the SCHEDULE: 11th Spanish Film Festival.

Fête de la Musique in Manila 2012 (Schedule + Venue)

French DJ Collective Chinese Man is this year’s main attraction in Fête de la Musique 2012. The group, known for its leader Chinese Man, an enigmatic head and owner of Chinese Man Records, blends contemporary jams of dubstep, Afro and hip-hop sampled with obscure samples of traditional music. The group is currently touring Southeast and has been invited to headline the event touted as World Music Day. Aside from the French exports, 10 local bands also take part in the concert: Coco Jam, Pepe Smith, Pupil, Jonan Aguilar, Tondo Tribe, Razorback, Flippin’ Soul Stompers and French singer Julien Drolon.

Aside from staging the concert, a street party is set to pay tribute to the Beatles and the anniversary of their first EP which I assume is their first British EP Twist and Shout. However, the EP was released July 12, 1963 which does not make sense with the press’ claim of celebrating its 50th anniversary. Any information on this one would be very appreciated, just in case the organizers are referring to the band’s another EP. (Here’s my favorite Beatles’ archive site.)

Smashing Pumpkins Live in Manila (Tickets + Venue)

It is Smashing Pumpkins without the rest of the band. The missing names of course made their name as resonant as the teenage angst designed in the 90’s fashion of alternative culture and MTV. Much has been written about the past legacy of that era so I leave it at that. For now, we have Billy Corgan, that’s for sure, as the last man standing in the pit of rats in a cage while the other three are worthy of their contribution being in the game since 2009. For someone stuck in the 90’s, it is a dead man’s wish to see the original line-up on the stage again. The fantasy might happen in the far-off Coachella 2030 or in the recent trend of a hologram gig. I certainly do not know how to feel on this but still seeing the name next to Live in Manila is somehow a good thing.

So it happens, Billy Corgan, Jeff Schroeder, Mike Byrnen and Nicole Fiorentino, the new Smashing Pumpkins are coming to Philippine shores. We can expect the Rotten Apples: Greatest Hits be played or get Zeitgeist onward. For what it’s worth, they are coming in the wake of promoting the latest record Oceania. Dubbed as Smashing Pumpkins Oceania Global Tour, the concert will be on August 7, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Check out the ticket + prices below.
